Black Eye Halloween
Updates From Home
Being the procrastinators we are, we didn’t start thinking about costumes until Friday morning. Actually Gigi was the one who initiated it on Thursday night by going around and continually asking what everyone was going to be for Halloween.
Friday morning found us sitting on the kitchen floor (not sure why) as a party of 3, making jokes and laughing about different costumes. Jim ran through a list of potential costumes which Gigi mostly dismissed or applied disinterest until he said, “Are you going to be Superman?” Her face immediately lit up and said, “No! I’m going to be super GIIIIIRL for Halloween!”
And yes she was!
We had to go up to town to find a few houses close together. She was a little shy at the first house, but quickly caught on and kept asking, “Can I go to the next house, can I go to the next house?!”
We ended the evening hanging out with a few firemen from the local fire department who were handing out doughnuts and cider. They had a rescue truck available for the kids to see, and Gigi thought it all quite fun.
Not that anyone would dare comment on the size of any pre-schooler, but she is wearing 3 layers of clothes under her costume which is causing her to look a little round. The temperature had dropped into the low 50’s, but the wind was biting. I kept telling her, “Let me know if you get chilly, ok?” She’s my little heater though, so I needn’t worry. At one point, she must have felt me shiver as she said authoritatively, “You let me know if you’re getting chilly, ok Mommy?”
Lastly, the black eye and rug burn really wasn’t supposed to be part of the costume. That is all real. On Friday afternoon, she was having too much fun at school, and hit the deck- or the carpet as the case may be. It was fairly weepy (gross) on Friday, but she didn’t complain about it so I guess it didn’t bother her. Now that it’s scabbed over, I think it’s pulling her skin tight as she is touching it more frequently now. Grammy told her a scab was God’s Band-aid. She loved that idea!
